Introduction

The mass-produced Type 1 Fighter "Hayabusa" was the main fighter of the IJA. This is the upgraded Model II variant.
Though its basic design was becoming obsolete, the mature design was given a maritime camouflage and anti-submarine bombs. This what-if variant is an upgraded anti-submarine patrol aircraft designed for operating off certain IJA carriers.
※This aircraft can be deployed on land bases.

Trivia

  • This particular plane is from the 20th Squadron which was a notable squadron deployed in Taiwan. This squadron utilized a unique "Eggplant Blue" color scheme while most army air groups used a mix of silver or IJA green color scheme. The squadron was trained in 1943 in Itami and originally deployed to the Kurils and then Okinawa within a year. Afterward, they were deployed in 1944 to Taiwan where 2 of their planes fought off 36 Hellcats and even managed to shoot down some US planes. They were then moved to the Philippines islands during the American offensive to recapture the territory. After the defense of the Philippines, they were moved back to Taiwan. This squadron was used for offshore patrols. This plane's markings was featured as an option for a Hasegawa 1/72 Ki-43-II Otsu model kit.
