*31 March 2021, the wreck was discovered by Caladan Oceanic under the guidance of Parks Stephenson and Victor Vescovo. During the dive, Parks revealed he was a fan of KanColle and he placed his nendoroid Johnston aboard the DSSV Limiting Factor as a good luck charm when they searched for the wreck. She sits upright and is well preserved at a depth of 21,180 ft (6,460 m) and was originally the world's deepest discovered wreck until June 2022 when USS Samuel B. Roberts was found at a depth of 6,985 meters (22,621 feet). Parks revealed that Johnston's wreck lies not too far from Samuel B. Roberts when he replied to Zeco's tweet about hoping Sam's isn't too lonely.
