"SOund Navigation And Ranging", SONARs. By observing sound waves underwater, they can detect anomalies like other ships, including submarines. They function either "actively", through producing sound and observing the echoes produced; or "passively", by picking up whatever sounds are produced natively. In the game, the active/passive distinction is only meaningful for Saury fishing.

Armor Penetration
Indepentant of synergies, some equipment provides additional armor penetration to ASW attacks.

The flat armor penetration value is calculated as follows:

With
  • [math]\displaystyle{ \text{ASW}_\text{Equipment} }[/math] the base ASW Anti-Submarine Warfare stat of the applicable equipment,
  • [math]\displaystyle{ \text{Mod}_\text{ship} }[/math] being 1 for DE, 0 otherwise,
Note
  • Armor penetration from equipment stacks,
  • The final armor of the targetted submarine cannot go below 1.
