Chinami Hashimoto KanColle Interview: Comptiq June 2017
The following interview was conducted in the Comptiq Magazine January 2018 edition (released on June 10th, 2017) in which seiyuu Chinami Hashimoto discusses her involvement with KanColle.
Within this 2 page article, Chinami Hashimoto does an interview and talks about her experiences doing the voice roles of Iowa and Yamakaze and her thoughts of what she would like to do in the future if given the chance to voice again.

ちなみ：'もちろん本作のことは存じていましたし、大変人気のある作品ということで、お話をいただいた時はすごく光栄に思いました。じつは最初、Iowaが初のアメリカ艦娘ということを知らなくて。Iowaが初登場した「艦これ改」の発売ひにTwitterのトレンドフードの多くがIowaや「艦これ」関係で埋め尽くされているのを見て、初めてその注目度の高さに気づきました。こんなに大きく注目されることになるとは思っていなかったので、自分のことのようにうれしかったです。Iowaが表紙に描かれていたコンプティーク（２０１６年６月号）さんも、個人的に買わせていただき、大初にとってあります。 会見者：ありがとうございます！では、そのIowaの第一印象は？ ちなみ：胸の大きいセクシーなお姉さんで、艤装もすごく強そうだなって思いました。おまけに当たり前ですけど、アメリカ出身だから英語のセリフが多くて。英語が全然しゃべられない私がこの役をやっていいのかと、正直ちっと不安に思っていたんです。だから、英語の発音を自分なりに調べて、精一杯演じさせていただきました。 会見者：Iowaを演じる際に気をつけていたことは？ ちなみ：大人のキャラクターを演じるときは、元々の性質もあってどうしても低いところから声を出したり語尾を気をつけたり、大人っぽくしようと意識をしてしまうんですけど、Iowaの場合は「明るくて活発な子なのでかわいらしいイメージで」と言っていただけたので、「テンション高く、楽しく」を心がけて演じさせていただきました。 会見者：人見知りせず、提督やいろんな艦娘たちと明るく接しているのもIowaの特徴ですね。 ちなみ：興味のある艦娘には、自分からグイグイ行っちゃうこですよね。もしかしたら大和は、いっぱい話しかけられすぎているから少し賑やかしいと思っているかもしれませんけど（笑）。提督とても心の距離が最初から近いので、ケッコンカッコリのときのセリフはストレートに喜んでいるように演じています。 |
Interviewer (I): Iowa became a big hit when she was implemented in Spring 2016. How did you feel when you were chosen for the role? Hashimoto (H): I'd already heard about KanColle of course, so it was such an honor to be considered for a part in such an popular work. To be honest, at first I didn't know that Iowa would be the first American shipgirl. The day KanColle Kai went on sale, Twitter's Trending Topics was packed with words related to KanColle and Iowa. It was when I saw that that I first realized just how big a deal it was. I had no idea things would blow up like they did, so I was really happy with myself. I bought a personal copy of the Comptiq issue with Iowa on the cover (June 2016) and treasured it. I: Thank you! What was your first impression of Iowa? H: A big-breasted and sexy oneesan, with all this powerful-looking equipment. On top of that, I realized that since she's from America she'd have a lot of English lines. I don't speak English at all, so I was honestly a little worried about if I would be okay for the role. So I looked up English pronunciation on my own and tried my best to act. I: What stuck with you as you portrayed Iowa? H: When you're portraying adults, you have your own voice that you need to stretch away from, and you need to watch your sentence endings - you have to keep in mind that you're acting more adult-like. But for Iowa, I was told, "She's a bright and active girl, so go for a cute image", so I kept "excited and happy" in mind as I acted. I: Cheerfully meeting the Admiral and the other shipgirls without a hint of shyness is one of Iowa's traits, isn't it? H: She's the kind of girl that would reach out to any shipgirl that takes her interest. She might talk with Yamato so much that Yamato finds her a little too lively (laugh). She's close to her Admiral's heart from the start as well, so I made her marriage line clearly happy. |

会見者：橋本さんが演じられたもうひとりの艦娘、山風は、Iowaから遅れて２０１６年秋の登場でした。山風の第一印象はいかがでしたか。 ちなみ：初めて台本を読んだとき、「構わないで」というセリフを真に受けちゃって、すごく暗い子なのかなって思っていたんです。でも役作りをしていく上で、じつは構ってほしいけど素直になれない子なのだということに気づきました。ほめられたり感謝されたりしてもつい「別にいい」って答えちゃいますけど、拒絶するようなセリフの中にもうれしさを込めるような感じを意識して演じています。 会見者：Iowaはとにかく明るいですけど、山風は不器用だから明るくしたくてもできない、というイメージがあります。 ちなみ：山風は自分の感情を表に出さないというか、本人的には心の底から楽しんでいてもそれを声に出せない、という子なんです。たとえばクリスマスの限定ボイスは、口では「わーい」とは言っているんですけど、どこかぎこちない感じですよね。感情をどこまで出すかというのがなかなか難しくて、何度かチャレンジさせていただきました。ケッコンカッコリのボイスは、セリフのなかの３点リーダーにも山風の心が表れているのかなと思い、微妙なニュアンスも出せるよう自分なりに考えながら演じました。 会見者：山風は、轟沈時のボイスがかなり心に響くと、提督たちの間でも評判です。 ちなみ：山風は史実で、白露型の中で最初に、しかも周囲に気づいてもらえないまま沈んでしまったと聞いていました。それはきっと、感娘の感情に置き換えるとすごく怖くて寂しいことだと思います。山風が感情を思いきり出すところなので、私も山風の心の叫びを届けるようにしないと、と思いながら演じました。 会見者：演じた以外で、お気に入りの艦娘を教えてもらえますか？ ちなみ：最初の秘書艦は五月雨を選んだんです。「山風と同じ白露型の子だ！」と思って選んだんですけど、明るくかわいい子でプレイするうちにものすごく愛着が湧いてきて、かなり好きな桓武巣です。ほかにも江風とか白露型の姉妹たちには愛着があります。私は江風と海風を演じている石上静香さんとは個人的にも仲がよくて、山風役が決まったとき「今度ずっち（石上）の姉妹になるんだよ」って言ったらすごく喜んでくれました。 会見者：これまで２隻を演じていますが、もし次の機会があればどんな子を演じてみたいですか？ ちなみ：Iowaが明るい子、山風がおとなしい子だったので、その中門くらいの子をぜひやってみたいです。海風のような母性を感じる、やさしい雰囲気の子とかどうでしょうか。あと、個人的に卯月みたいな変わった語尾を付けてしゃべる子が好きなので、そういう子にも機会があればチャレンジしてみたいです。 会見者：今後の「艦これ」で見てみたいことなどはありますか？ ちなみ：Iowaと山風のいろんな衣装をもっと見たいです。Iowaはアメリカ国旗柄のセクシーなビキニとか、絶対似合いそうですよね。山風は。。。肌が白すぎて水着とか着せると心配になっちゃいそうなので、サンタ服とか大き目のぶかぶかな衣装をかわいく着こなしているイラストを見てみたいです。ゲームの外だと、実際の艦船とコラボしてくれたら楽しそうですね。艦内放送とかあこがれるので、もしそういう機会があったらぜひ呼んでください！ 会見者：最後に、コンプティーク読者にメッセージをお願いします。 ちなみ：「艦これ」四周年、おめでとうございます。私が関わったのはそのうちの１年ほどですけど、それだけの間にたくさんの反響をいただけて、本当にうれしく思っています。微力ですがこれからも「艦これ」を盛り上げられるようにがんばりますので、よろしくお願いします |
I: The other shipgirl you portray, Yamakaze, appeared much later, in Fall 2016. What was your first impression of Yamakaze? H: When I first read the script, that line "don't mind me" made me think, what a gloomy girl. But as I studied for the role, I realized she just wasn't being honest herself and does want your attention. When you complement or thank her, she goes "It's nothing", but even these lines that sound like rejections on the surface have some happiness tucked inside that I kept in mind as I did her role. I: Iowa's quite the bright girl, but Yamakaze has this image of an awkward girl trying but failing to be bright, right? H: Yamakaze is the kind of girl that can't quite express her own emotions, or at least not to the person in question. For example, in her Christmas seasonal, she goes, "Yaaay", but it's got this funny feeling to it, right? I wasn't sure just how much emotion to show, so I made myself to do it many times over. In her marriage line, I felt the "..." in the line revealed some of Yamakaze's feelings as well, so I kept in mind how I would bring out that nuance as I acted. I: Yamakaze's sinking line caused quite a stir among Admirals for all the emotion that went into it. H: I was told that in real life, Yamakaze was not only the first of Shiratsuyu-class to sink but also sank without anyone nearby to notice. I thought that terrifying loneliness had to be something that stuck in the shipgirl's heart. So I told myself that here, where Yamakaze's feelings would come bursting out, I had to reach for the call of her heart as I acted. I: Would you mind telling us any shipgirls you like besides the ones you portrayed? H: I chose Samidare as my first secretary ship. "She's in the same Shiratsuyu-class as Yamakaze," I thought as I picked her. But she's a bright and cute girl, so I grew quite fond of her as I played - I like her very much. I've also grown quite fond of Kawakaze and the other Shiratsuyu-class sisters. I'm personally quite close with the voice actor of Kawakaze and Umikaze, Ishigami Shizuka-san. When I was chosen for Yamakaze's role, I told her, "I'm going to be Zucchi's (Ishigami's) sister!", she was really happy for me. I: You've portrayed two shipgirls so far - if you had the opportunity, what kind of girl would you like to try next? H: Iowa's a bright girl, while Yamakaze's a quiet one, so I'd love to try a girl that's sorta in between. Someone with Umikaze's motherly feeling, or a gentle atmosphere? Also, I like girls like Uzuki with special sentence endings, so I'd love to give that a shot if given the opportunity. I: Is there anything you'd like to see in KanColle going forward? H: I'd love to see Iowa and Yamakaze in more outfits. Iowa in an American flag bikini or something would totally fit. For Yamakaze... I'd love to see a swimsuit or something that shows she's so pale it's worrying, or a Santa costume or something that's way too big for her. It'd be fun to see a collaboration with a real ship outside the game, wouldn't it? I'd love to do the on-board PA or something, so if there's an opportunity please reach me! I: Finally, do you mind giving a message to the Comptiq readers? H: Congratulations to KanColle on its fourth anniversary. I've only been involved for a year, but the huge response I've gotten in such a short time has made me really happy. I'll continue to do my best to liven up KanColle.
