The Do 217 E-5 is an upgraded version of the Do 17. This variant saw combat from the middle to the end of the war, and was also a test bed for many experimental weapons which includes the Hs293 radio-guided glide bomb. The Hs293 is the first ever operational anti-ship missile. The Germans also used it to attack bridges during D-Day but with low effectiveness. Although the service record of the Hs293 is poor due to the discovery that jammers can be used to counter them, these missiles are credited with damaging or sinking at least 25 ships from 1943 to 1945. The list of ships damaged or sunk by the Hs293 includes HMS Janus (sunk) and HMS Jervis (damaged) who are both in the game. The particular plane on the equipment card is from the Kampfgeschwader 100 particularly the II./KG 100 unit, responsible for testing and using the Hs293.
