Back in June 2016's Comtiq Magazine, an interview was conducted with Kantai Collection's producer Kensuke Tanaka, and artist Shizuma Yoshinori where they discussed about the work they did together back while producing the game. Tanaka mentions that when he first asked Yoshinori to produce a design for the Fubuki-class he came up with a design of a brown hair girl dressed in a rather revealing sailor uniform. Tanaka felt the design looked "too fast" to fit the Fubuki-class.

In turn, Tanaka would later turn to Shibafu to design the Type I and Type II Fubuki-class Destroyers while the remainder of the original design of the Fubuki-class that Yoshinori made would later be converted to make [[Shimakaze]] since the whole fast bunny motif she presented better fit her.
